Happy 6th Anniversary dear iPhone, today; 6 years ago you were born and you revolutionized the world with your ease of use. Lets call it like it is; Apple changed everything when it came to smartphones.

iPhone, iPhone 2G…iPhone First Generation (whichever you prefer) was released on June 29th, 2007 available exclusively for AT&T. It was one the first smartphone that had a full touchscreen with multi touch capabilities. As Jobs himself has said his address when introducing the iPhone as in his address, Jobs said, “I have been looking forward to this for two and a half years”, and that “today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone.” Jobs introduced the iPhone as a combination of three devices: a “widescreen iPod with touch controls”; a “revolutionary mobile phone”; and a “breakthrough Internet communicator”.

The phone sold millions of units, a hit! It featured Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g Wi-fi, a much criticized 2.0 Megapixel camera. It did not have support for third party apps or even an App Store. No MMS or copy paste capabilities (although, these came in later software versions, no clue why they didn’t include it out of the box.) The original iPhone only had GPRS/EDGE connectivity to Cingular/AT&T’s network at that time, no 3G support. The CPU Samsung S3C6400 (ARM11 core) with a CPU Speed of 400 MHz. Also featured RAM of Onboard RAM: 128 MB with L1 cache of 16kb.

The iPhone came in 4GB/8GB and 16GB versions.

As I wrap this article up I just want to say Thank you, to Steve Jobs and all his brilliance. Thank you for bringing these fantastic products to the masses.

Thank you for bringing us the first user-friendly smartphone.

Thank you.
