You can now wave ta-ta to the check in underdog, Gowalla. If you remember about three months back, Facebook snapped up the former Austin, Texas based company in an acquisition. Now today, Mashable received word at SXSW 2012 that the plug has finally been pulled on the service.
Former CEO of Gowalla, Josh Williams, had been working on an API that would give developers the ability to integrate location services with shared content on Facebook. But since the development for the API has come to an end, the proof of Gowalla being integrated into Facebook has vanished. Never fear though. Former Gowalla users will be able to access their Gowalla data for download soon.
