Trust Twitter Inc to release their app for Windows 8 while I was sleeping . Most of you probably heard the news already. The Twitter official App is now in the Store. A lot many people, including yours truly, are disappointed with the app because it is just so basic. Given the amount time we’ve had to wait for the app (since November 24th 2012), does Twitter really need Six months to release such an App? Looks like what someone could do in a weekend. There are definitely apps in the Store that beat Twitter’s app. It may be me, but the current version of the App doesn’t support Lists. I would have expected a generous use of Windows 8 panoramic features to show columns, but you’re constantly going in and out of screens. Messages for example is buried deep you have to know where to find it. This is really lame Twitter. Definitely not what we expected. Absolutely an anti-climax. Like a good friend of mine said:
Obviously other goodies are coming later on. But “why release an incomplete app?” like Richard said in another tweet. I guess they realized they’ve waited too long.
Here is the description from Twitter of the app in the Store:
With Twitter, you can watch the world unfold like never before.
** Get real-time stories, pictures, videos, conversations, ideas, and inspiration all in your timeline.
** Follow people and your interests to get unfiltered access and unique behind-the-scenes perspectives.
** Express yourself with photos, videos and comments.
Twitter for Windows 8 brings you all the design, features and functionality of Twitter combined with the fast and fluid technology of Windows 8:
– The Discover (#) icon shows you new topics from people in your network and other information like Trends and Who to Follow suggestions. But nowhere else can you scroll through Discover stories horizontally. Smoothly move through a collage of Tweets, pictures, links and article previews that make the most of your device.
– The Share charm makes it easier to tweet links, pictures and opinions to your followers from anywhere in Windows 8. Reading an article in Internet Explorer about Hawaii? Swipe in from the right edge of the device, tap the Share charm, add your comments in the Tweet and hit send.
– Create the ultimate screen with Snap view on Windows 8. Drag Twitter into the narrow side of the screen and slide in another favorite app. You can stream a live video while you watch the conversation about it unfold on Twitter. Then use the Share charm to join the discussion.
With many thanks to our over 200 million users!
My apologies for my disappointment people. I was just not not happy with a debut from Twitter that doesn’t support Lists. One positive news about all this though; those of you having headaches from crashing twitter clients in Snapped mode. News is that this client is stable in snapped mode. At least some usefulness for you there.
Don’t let me spoil the party for you. Please go right ahead and download from Store via the source link below.
