February 9th Activision Blizzard announced that it will “disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit” because of the lack of interest in music games in the recent months. Another Guitar Hero game was in development and planned for release sometime in 2011 but, with the discontinue of the franchise it has been canceled.

Even though Activision head executives shut the door on Guitar Hero Development, they claim that they have plans to return. They said this most likely to get back to development as soon as music genre games are back in the interests of gamers and famililies.

This decision was most likely final due to the lack of sales for the competitor Rock Band 3, and Guitar Hero 5. Guitar Hero saw its best years with the great sales of Guitar Hero 3, and World Tour. I say let it rest in peace for now and if the fans want a revival of the franchise then give Blizzard a call.
