Adding a shortcut to a UWP app on your desktop is very easy to do in Windows 10. UWP apps are modern apps designed for Windows 10. Most, but not all, UWP apps come from the Windows Store. When you install an app, you do not get a shortcut icon on your desktop by default. But doing so is as simple as click-and-drag.
Adding a Shortcut Icon to the Desktop
To add a shortcut icon for an app to your desktop, follow these steps:
- Open up the Start menu by clicking on the Start button or pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
- From the list of apps on the left side of the Start menu, locate the app for which you want to add a shortcut.
- Click and drag the app from the list and pace it on to your desktop
That’s it! It’s as simple as that.
Note: This method will not work if your Start menu is full screen. To learn how to disable fulls screen Start, see this help article (coming soon).
Did you Know? You can move or copy the desktop icon you created to any other location on your PC. You can even rename the icon! Double-clicking the icon will launch the app, regardless of where you put it.
