Well, it looks like GameStop is joining the fray of retail stores that will be offering iDevices. Can’t really say this is unexpected since these devices are used for gaming by those on the go. For the time being, GameStop is only accepting used trade-ins in exchange for in-store credit and not offering new devices for sale just yet. But before you go skipping to your nearest GameStop to trade in that old iPod you don’t use anymore, you may want to read up on GameStop’s terms & conditions for that trade-in:
“Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Trades with case damage or unsightly scratches, personalization or engravings will not be accepted. All trades are subject to manager approval. GameStop reserves the right to cease taking trades of iPod, iPhone or iPad without notice. By trading your iPod, iPhone or iPad you release GameStop from any claim relating to the product (including but not limited to loss of the iPod, iPhone or iPad or its contents) and any music, pictures or other data stored on it. You also release GameStop from any claim for loss or unauthorized access, use or disclosure of any personal or private data or information stored on the iPod, iPhone or iPad. iPod, iPhone, iPad (including images of the iPod, iPhone or iPad), and Apple are all registered trademarks of, and owned by, Apple Inc.”
Our guess is that Game Stop is getting ready for the holiday season. By that time, plenty of iDevices would have been shipped of to resellers and new stock would be in to fill all those empty stockings. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Wouldn’t it be in Gamestop’s best interest to stay away from the iOS, given that it can’t sell games for that platform?
I understand the argument that whether or not Gamestop sells iOS devices won’t change their adoption, and thus, they might as well try to make money where they can, but I don’t think this is true. Gamestop selling the iPhone and iPod Touch will have a huge impact in the minds of consumers, in terms of how they view the device. Gamers considering a 3DS or PSP Vita just might decide to stick with their old iPod Touch, since if Gamestop is selling it, that adds a ton of validity to iOS as a gaming platform.

This will indeed have an impact on the consumers. But this may also have an impact on Apple and how they handle the gaming aspect of iOS. Of course this is all depending on the consumers reaction.
