Another favorite tool of mine has just debuted for touch interface in the Windows Store. TeamViewer is no stranger to most of you that live in the IT and Support circles. It is the public contender with SplashTop, LogMeIn and other Remote Desktop solutions. I have been using TeamViewer for years to support my extensive family and friends PCs. I am glad they released this Touch version as this will allow you to remote into hosts from within Windows RT devices like Surface etc that doesn’t have desktop version of Teamviewer.
As you can see above I have already installed the app and taken it for a spin. I can say, it works as advertised. You can only initiate outbound connection to remote hosts, you will never be able to connect to TeamViewer Touch from outside. Security feature of Windows 8 of course. Here is TeamViewer GmbH’s description of the App from the Store:
Control any remote computer with TeamViewer Touch within seconds. If you want to remotely control this computer and benefit from the whole range of features please download the TeamViewer Desktop app (download on http://www.teamviewer.com).
With TeamViewer Touch you can remotely control computers or servers via the internet, as if you were sitting right in front of them. Whether you are providing spontaneous support for friends and family, administrating servers or working from your home office – TeamViewer lets you get the job done.
Find out why more than 100 million users trust TeamViewer!
1. Install and start the app
2. Install and start the TeamViewer Desktop app on the computer you want to control (download on http://www.teamviewer.com)
3. Enter the TeamViewer ID and password of the remote computer in the app and click on “Remote ControlConnect”
– Preview version —
Windows, Mac or Linux — Remotely control any computer within seconds
Highest security standard — 256 Bit AES Session Encoding and 1024 Bit RSA Key Exchange
Integrated computers & contacts list — See the online status of your partners and connect to them via quick access
No configuration — Effortless access to remote computers even behind firewalls and proxy servers
Simple reboot — Reboot remote computers or servers from anywhere
Multi monitor — Switch between multiple screens easily
I am still fiddling with this app, I can’t see the remote-reboot advertised. Note the message in the description informing that this is just a preview, that is the app is just basic at the moment, there more to come in the future. For me, I am just glad to see TeamViewer onboard. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in the pipeline for the future. Download the Metro now via the source link here below.
